- Summary:
- The book by Victoria Verlichak is a reflection on the painting "Isle of the Dead" (German: Die Toteninsel), the best-known painting of Swiss Symbolist artist Arnold Böcklin (Basilea, 1827-Fiesoli, 1901) and one of the most widespread, quoted and rearticulated images of the artist int the last centuries. It is also an evocation written in the first person about the cultural scene and the memories aroused by the city of Berlin, where the Verlichak first encountered the canonical third version of the romantic oil painting in the museum Alte Nationalgalerie in 1994.
