Summary:
In modern literature, Franz Kafka is considered a key witness for a nocturnal consciousness that emerges from the representation of "the dreamlike inner life." In a letter to Felice Bauer, he speaks of the "work of the long night," which is dedicated to the promise of dreams. The approximately 60 dream recordings contained in his diaries and letters not only read as biographical testimonies that shed new light on the author's life and work, they also present themselves more generally as a source of poetic inspiration and as historical documents of self- and world experience. The present study, which discusses Kafka's lucid night watch, contains reflections on the imaginary reservoir and creative potential of dreams, which can change our view of reality. -- Translated from the back cover.
