Summary:
"Released on the occasion the eponymous exhibition at Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles, 'Nonmemory,' edited by exhibition curator Jay Ezra Nayssan, founder and director of Del Vaz Projects, brings together works by Mike Kelley and a group of artists--Kelly Akashi, Meriem Bennani, Beatriz Cortez, Raúl de Nieves, Olivia Erlanger, Lauren Halsey, and Max Hooper Schneider--whose work similarly engages Kelley's titular concept: the 'non-memory' of the various institutional spaces or built environments he encountered in his life, such as his childhood home and church, and every school he attended, as explored in works beginning with 'Educational Complex' (1995) and ending with 'Mobile Homestead' (2005-13). The book, co-published by Del Vaz Projects and Hauser & Wirth Publishers, reflects this engagement with 'non-memory' in its design and features a new text by Nayssan, reproductions of important works by Kelley and his foundational text, 'Repressed Architectural Memory Replaced with Pyschic Reality,' conversations with each artist, and documentation of the exhibition"-- Provided by publisher.
