Local Notes:
Smith copy annotated by a previous owner on pastedowns, free endleaves and title leaf; a few manuscript marginal notes and marks in text. "[A]dditional curative recipes ... begin on the front paste-down with a recipe for treating sciatica, beneath which we find a seemingly related note suggesting a renewed tolerance for walks and the capacity to sit longer for meals ... The next two pages ... offer five different remedies for kidney stones and side aches ... On the rear endpapers are two pages dedicated to making soap ... At back we also find a remedy for scroffe (presumably scrofula) plus one for gout of the foot (podagra) surrounding the printer's device on the final page ... [A]n additional remedy has been scrawled in the outer margin of the title page ... Beyond the medicinal, a note at the bottom of the front pastedown appears to cite Giovanni Manardo's thoughts on the precious stone lapis stellatus (or armenus, similar to lapis lazuli)."--Bookseller's description.
