McGregor, and for James May by George Davenport and Thomas F. Smith by Antoine Le Claire. 1836 February 23, no place. These are the Articles of Agreement by which the city of Davenport, Iowa, was established. The eight founders agreed to purchase the property from Antoine Le Claire, lay the lots out, and sell them off as of May 1, 1836. Le Claire retained an eighth interest in the property as his share, the others paying 1750 [dollars] for their seven shares. In the margin to the left of the signatures there is a short deed signed by A. W. McGregor transferring his share to Stanton Sholes. The deed bears Sholes's signature and also that of Elnathan C.
