- From Colton Storm catalogue: "The two volumes comprising this History are made up from newspaper clippings from the Carrollton (Illinois) Press in which Bryant published his reminiscences. A printed title-page was prepared for each volume. The first volume contains seven chapters about the Mexican War and six chapters about the Civil War. The second volume is devoted whollly to the latter war. The author intended to "give the student of history an idea of the state of things and feeling that existed north and south, immediately proceeding the out brake of the Rebellion." Bryant was elected captain of the first full company formed at Greenfield, Illinois on May 9, 1861."
