From the Colton Storm catalogue: "Journal of pioneer life. Volume I of five volumes. This first volume is a narrative of Williams' earliest years in Oregon including an account of his seven and one-half years of ill health as the result of a Native American arrow imbedded in his abdomen. The battle in which he was wounded is vividly described. Inserted in this volume, as in the other volumes are numerous printed and manuscript materials relating to Williams' career as hunter, surveyor, county clerk, homesteader, captain in the Oregon Volunteers, traveller, guide, lumberman, etc. "
