- From the Colton Storm catalogue: "The manuscript entries by Clyman are for the first few days of 1840 and comprise speculative remarks on various subjects. Included are comments on his experiences in the Rocky Mountains and the Black Hills. According to his notes, Clyman was trading in furs in the Rockies between 1823 and 1827. There is one long, good passage about buffaloes. The volume was used later by Hiram I. Ross, who was in partnership with Clyman in 1836, as an account book (85 pages and the back endleaf) from 1848 to 1862. Nearly all of the Ross entries are in pencil. Part of the time, Ross operated a sawmill near Milwaukee."
