- From the Colton Storm catalogue: "The author describes his boyhood in Missouri and his overland trip to California in the spring of 1847. On his way, he met General Kearny returning from California. Kearny told him his party were too late to cross the mountains to California, so they took the Oregon Road down the Snake River. Braly stayed for a while with Dr. Whitman, but due to a premonition on his mother's part, he left the mission just two weeks before the massacre. By the spring of 1849, he was in California where he remained."
