Summary:
A. A. Popov's monograph is a classic example of Russian ethnographic research from the first half of the 20th century. Based on his own field material, collected during expeditions in the 1920s and 1930s, the book contains a nearly vanished world of traditional spiritual culture among the Dolgan people. A. A. Popov had a perfect command of the Yakut language and was able to create an accurate and vivid picture of Dolgan mythology and emotional understanding of the world. The book is addressed to ethnographers, historians and linguists, as well as a wide range of general readers.
