- This Making Of centers on the production of Entre Lugar, an album by Manuel de Oliveira to be released in November 2020, as well as one of the artist’s tours. It is a perfect introduction to the live concert filmed during lockdown in June 2021 at the Diogo Bernardes Theatre in Lima, also available to watch on our platform. Here, we get a glimpse into Oliveira's endearing personality, his humility and sensitivity, and a quest for knowledge leading to a different way of life and an unbounded creativity. Partly filmed in the beautiful Guimarães, a small city in northern Portugal full of inviting squares and streets, Oliveira's interviews provide insight into his creative approach. Between fado, flamenco and traditional Portuguese music, he reflects on the breaking down of imposed categories, and on musical influences as a means of creating a community and defining an identity. He emphasizes his father’s influence on him (to whom the song “O Sopro” is dedicated), as well as that of the Portuguese singer José “Zéca” Afonso, whose song “Grande Vila Morena” was used in operations against the Salazar dictatorship (listen to the instrumental version of “Venham Mais Cinco”), and finally, Paco de Lucia, who showed him that the guitar could be a solo instrument. It is with Lucia in mind, he says, that he performs “Caminhos Magnéticos.” Like the seasoned creator he is, he pays tribute to his fellow musicians: the wonderful accordionist João Frade, the Brazilian cellist Sarah Martins and the singer Marcos Rodrigues, who in “Nem Ventos Nem Madrugadas” demonstrates just how powerful the emotions of fado are.
