- Summary:
- Erik Satie, who was close to Maurice Ravel and the writer Blaise Cendrars before establishing a singular relationship with Tristan Tzara and the Dada movement, left behind a very singular work. As such, this variation upon the Hermit of Arcueil by Chapelier Fou and Bachar Mar-Khalifé works well precisely because it avoids the pitfall of literal transcription. Endowed with a solid musical background, the electro musician from Metz and fan of Lewis Carroll creates, for this encounter, strong climates punctuated by bewitching effects. As for the son of the charismatic Marcel Khalifé, he imposes an oriental dimension which marries remarkably well with the scores of the Parisian esthete. Urban loops, violin chords, or haunting songs, the many contributions blend with ease. An interesting point of this session, the version of the first "Gymnopédie” succeeds in amplifying Erik Satie’s contemplations without ever distorting the original miniature. An interesting interpretation which confirms the place occupied by the musician-poet amongst sound architects and other adventurers of digital programming. Vincent Caffiaux
