- Summary:
- When John Lee Hooker arrived in Paris in 1970 an enthusiastic public welcomed him at the Maison de la Radio. Raised in the Delta (he was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1917) before emigrating to Detroit, his guitar synthesized the rusticity of delta blues with the electricity and pulse of the urban city, forging a distinctive style that would be a major inspiration for the generation of British bands coming out of the early 1960s - like the Rolling Stones. It is from this period that his hit “Shake It Baby” dates back, one of the songs performed on the stage of Studio 104, accompanied by the quartet of harmonica player Carey Bell, who play with masterly assurance. Now in his fifties, his legend has already been written, but he doesn't fail to salute those who propelled his international career, with a rollicking cover of the Stones’ “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” to complete this remarkable concert. Eric Delhaye
