- Summary:
- On April 21, 2017, two years after Cité de la Musique inaugurated its new venue, the architectural gem Philharmonie de Paris, legendary reggae singer/composer Johnny Osbourne set up shop for his dancehall show of songs that he made into hits throughout his career. With a flair for capturing an audience, Osbourne performed on a range of subjects—all within the roots reggae vibe—including social tribulations, love songs and a fun ditty on his favorite dessert ("I Love Ice Cream"), all in the hopes that they would "purify your heart." Osbourne danced to the non-stop groove, engaging the crowd to partake in his upbeat and uplifting performance. His six-piece Homegrown Band (electric keyboards, electric guitar, five-string electric bass, drums and two swaying horns: trombone and saxophone) gamely supported him. Beginning his career in the late ‘60s, Osbourne burst onto the reggae scene with his 1980 album. Truth & Rights. The personal manifesto title track made him a star, so it makes sense that he would repay his fans by rendering a grooved take on "Truth & Rights." That proved to be the highlight of the 47-minute show. Dan Ouellette
