- Summary:
- A member of the same Israeli generation as pianist Yaron Herman and trumpeter Avishai Cohen, tenor saxophonist Eli Degibri has risen through the ranks since his early twenties, when he collaborated with Herbie Hancock and Al Foster. Here, we see him as leader, and in full possession of his skills, at the 2014 Django Reinhardt festival at Samois-sur-Seine. He plays alongside a quartet he formed upon returning to Tel-Aviv: Gadi Lehavi (piano), Barak Mori (double bass) and Ofri Nehemya (drums). The repertoire of his album, *Twelve*, exalts the intensity of his tenor and it is difficult not to think of Sonny Rollins when he approaches Latin rhythms, like on the scorching "Mambo" at the end of the concert. This is the level of class that he displays. Eric Delhaye
