- Summary:
- After returning from his first tour of Brazil in 1961, Herbie Mann recorded a series of albums that reflected his infatuation with what he had heard there. The New York flutist was hooked on bossa nova and released Brazil Bossa Nova & Blues in 1962 and Do the Bossa Nova in 1963, with Baden Powell and Antonio Carlos Jobim among his guests. In this way he developed an interest for Brazil that he would never stop returning to during his whole career. Jasil Brazz—guess which letters have been reversed here—is a good example. On this album released in 1987 (which shares its title with this filmed concert), the flutist mixes his long-time love for bossa nova with a jazz fusion where the double bass player has been replaced by an electric bass. It's a must. Florent Servia
