Summary:

Four trombones make up the front line of Bonerama, the now long-established New Orleans combo who stew up a greasy gumbo of jazz, blues, funk and psychedelic rock, presenting original tunes as well as digging up what can only be called the classic English songbook of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and King Crimson. Besides the monstrous ‘bones, this crew also have a huffing sousaphone to the rear, and Bert Cotton’s acidic bottleneck guitar to the side. Arrangements are tight, but always allowing individual expression, each player seemingly soloing simultaneously as they weave through their head-nodding themes. Back around 2007-2010 they were already making a mark in New York City, with residencies at the now-defunct Sullivan Hall, home of the jam band scene. Bonerama move from slow-dragging midnight sleaze to pumping, agile funk, with co-founder Mark Mullins having a penchant for hot-wired phasing and chorus pedal effects. This Generations Hall episode also features funk-jazz drummer Jamal Batiste, soul singer Tonya Boyd-Cannon, slinky rockers Raw Oyster Cult and rapper The Wave. Martin Longley
