- Summary:
- Hungarian artists Gabor Winand and Kalman Olah (Olah Kalman according to some sources) perform a classy, intimate concert in the Protestant church in Junas, where the stained glass windows painted by Daniel Humair let the light shine through. It is immediately apparent that the pianist's abilities, which also draw on contemporary music and folklore from his native country, foster a lyricism that transcends the boundaries of jazz. A subtle accompanist, he is also a superb songwriter, as evidenced by his composition, "Lyric Song." Gabor Winand's supple voice — always between mid-range and bass — blossoms into arabesques, onomatopoeias, and vocal percussions that place him more in the footsteps of an Al Jarreau than an Ella Fitzgerald. His Latin jazz swing is very mellow when he sings the lyrics of the Cuban Elsa Valle in Spanish. Philippe Lesage
