- Summary:
- American singer and pianist Liz McComb opens this 1998 concert whilst alone at the piano, on film at the Olympia in Paris. In a more than 6-minute introduction, she kept her audience on their toes. At any time, the impressive vocal demonstration, or the light and rubato phrasing, can be transformed with the arrival of the rhythm section. After being joined by Harold T. Johnson on the organ, Quentin Dennards on percussion and Byron Moore on bass, the groove soon comes to life. Lying somewhere between gospel and soul, the singer leads this archive concert with real fervour. She doesn't hesitate to stand up while playing the piano or to go acapella on the riffs. Her stage presence is clear and she demonstrates it perfectly here. Floriane Esnault
