Summary:
What is the best way to convince those who feel no appetite for tango to watch this beautiful documentary? The words of Argentinean accordion player, Rodolfo Mederos, suffice. Here, he enlightens us about the roots, the mysteries and the vitality of the genre. His singular career path is highlighted, and we learn how he came from biology and geology, eventually finding his own path by qualifying himself less as a musician and more as an activist. His task is to transmit the ideals of brotherhood that this music, born from the nostalgia of Spanish, Italian and Central European immigrants has kept alive within him. After having integrated the teachings of the great Pugliese for a decade, Rodolfo Mederos moved closer to a traditional non-museified tango. Now, he has formed an "orquesta tipica" around young musicians, with its essential squad of four bandoneons (accordions), strings (violins, violas, violas, cello, double bass and guitar) that cover unforgettable themes by Anibal Troilo, Pedro Laurenz, Pedro Maffia, Osvaldo Pugliese and Angel Villoldo. He does not forget, as tradition requires, to call upon singers; the Spanish Miguel Poveda, fascinated by tango since childhood, distils the intensity of flamenco to "Como abrazao a un rencor" (like hugging a grudge).
