Summary:
Brotherzone, the trio created by Jamaladeen Tacuma, a bassist who played in Ornette Coleman's Prime Time, offers us a concert of exceptional intensity here, complete with a heartbreaking revolutionary cry. Guitarist Jean-Paul Bourelly and drummer Daryl Burgee are by his side. Wadud Ahmad (spoken word artist, with a fascinating orator's voice, deep and composed) joins them for an incandescent ending whose pinnacle is "For John Coltrane." "We are the ambassadors for the world of peace," Jamaladeen Tacuma proclaims. Far be it from us to deny the assertion, but we have to admit that this concert is like a wave that carries everything in its path, through the power of the word and the electric blasts of an urban blues mingled with jazz and rock. Bourelly's singing is a scream that comes from the gut. His guitar playing as well as the themes seem to carry the memory of the rhythmic pulse and the acidity of Hendrix' melodies. Philippe Lesage
