Summary:

He’s the source of the thrilling first notes of "Eleven Wives." With Mark Guiliana on drums, Shai Maestro played on the gold record by Israeli double bassist Avishai Cohen, *Gently Disturbed*, before recording three others, including *Aurora* and *Seven Seas* for the Blue Note label. At barely 21 years of age, the Israeli pianist was thrown into the deep end of prestigious stages and international attention. Driven by a desire for creative independence, the young pianist quickly chose to set out on his own. He launched his trio in 2012 with an album recorded by Laborie, a French label that helped establish his name at festivals and in jazz clubs in France. Jazz à la Villette was no exception. In 2013, they invited the trio, whose trademark — inherited from Avishai Cohen — of a lyrical performance brought together in crescendo, had already been established. Shai Maestro turned out to be a composer guided by sensitivity and the constant pursuit of group chemistry. He has been proving it ever since, recording his first album on the ECM label, *The Dream Thief*, in 2018. Florent Servia
