Summary:
MonoNeon, the eccentric bassist with a colorful style and a host of musical influences can't be forgotten once you've discovered him. Whether in his visual or musical approach, everything about this Tennessee native is different. A protégé of Prince - they collaborated together on one of the late guitarist's last tracks - MonoNeon blends funk, soul, hip hop (alongside many other influences) into his richly produced compositions. A particularity of his playing is that, although right-handed, he plays bass like a left-hander... with a right-handed bass mounted upside down. The result is a particular way of "bending" the notes (pulling the string to increase its pitch) that colors his sound like no other bassist. Looking back over the indefatigable musician's oeuvre (nineteen albums over eleven years), we find a pronounced taste for experimentation, harmonies that are instantly recognizable and no limits to the diversity of his projects. Present at the North Sea Jazz Festival, he granted Qwest TV an exclusive interview. Mathieu Bach
