- Summary:
- On Two Pianos we find a playful dialogue between the Cypriot concert musician Nicolas Economou and Chick Corea, very much in the spirit of the Munich Piano Summer Festival, which brings together musicians from a variety of aesthetic backgrounds. While it is no longer necessary to dwell on the singular career of Chick Corea, who has the whole history of the piano at his fingertips, it is worth remembering that Nicolas Economou — who was the co-founder of the Munich festival and died in a car accident in 1993 at the age of 40 — was a renowned classical pianist and film music composer. Between the first song (Corea's "Homecoming") and "Duet for Two Pianos in 3 Parts" (also by Corea), we go through a long series of improvised quasi-vignettes that precede six études from Bela Bartók's Mikrokosmos. In this game of cat and mouse, you can see allusions to Bach, Debussy's impressionist colors, Bill Evans' delicate romanticism, and the random percussiveness of contemporary piano.
