- Summary:
- Since the abolition of slavery in 1888, Salvador has remained the Brazilian city with the highest percentage of blacks and people of mixed race in its population. This African integration has permeated Bahian culture and the syncretism of its musical heritage, since Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil’s Tropicalia. The two icons feature in this documentary that tells how the samba de roda, the axé, and the pagode, first tested in the laboratory that is carnival, conquered the entire country. From Carlinhos Brown to Daniela Mercury, from the historic streets of Pelourinho to the beaches where people do capoeira, without forgetting the candomblé or the social role of a group like Olodum in the favelas (slums), the film is an immersion in this outpouring of meaning and sound.
