Summary:
Since his emergence in the mid ‘80s Michael Camilo has put the Dominican Republic on the international jazz map, and proved himself to be a virtuoso. Inspired by both American and Latin-American masters such as Art Tatum, Chick Corea and Chucho Valdes Camilo developed his own effervescent approach to these traditions by performing time-honoured standards such as Mongo Santamaria’s ‘Afro-Blue’ as well as penning originals such as ‘Suite Sandrine.’ Camilo has excelled in a number of settings, especially solo and trio. Yet he has long been inspired by the possibilities offered by a horn section. Saxophonist Ralph Bowen and trumpeter Michael Mossman duly bring finesse and fire to this explosive performance in Munich, 1991. Kevin Le Gendre
