- Summary:
- 1995. That year, Salif Keïta released Folon, a cornerstone album dedicated to albino children who, like him in his time, were persecuted for the evil powers attributed to them by certain popular beliefs. As the direct heir to Soundiata Keïta, founder of the Mandingo Empire, the disabled man who has become Mali's emblematic "golden voice" shines here on the stage of the Jazz Open Stuttgart with the aura of a more than princely griot. His best Ambassadors are the electrifying brass, blues-rock riffs and sweeping balafons of his loyal allies. More than an anecdotal concert, this live show also testifies to the amazing mixing and hyper-creativity at work in the 90s. These will have kept their promises for a whole generation of African musicians for whom Salif Keïta was and remains one of the great inspirations. Jeanne Lacaille
