- Summary:
- If there is one figure who has left their mark on the history of European jazz, it is Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava. This is no doubt thanks to the encounters that have marked his long career (Gato Barbieri, Steve Lacy, John Abercrombie, Roswell Rudd, Carla Bley), Aldo Romano), his luminous phrasing, and a melodic sense that expresses all his Italianity. And let’s not forget his talent for discovering young partners, such as Franco d’Andrea, Massimo Urbini, Stefano Bollani, and Paolo Fresu, just to name a few. And the young collaborators on the 80th Birthday Tour are no exception to the rule; double bass player Gabrielle Evangelista and trombonist Gianluca Petrella have already made their mark. Starting with the effervescence of free jazz in the 1960s, Enrico Rava has gradually broadened his palette. The concert shows that he achieves a beautiful stylistic synthesis between libertarian spirit, melodic refinement, zeitgeist, and verve. "Infant," with its marriage of bebop harmonies, Aylerian march, and lilting melody, is a shining example. Philippe Lesage
