- Summary:
- Recorded in 2014 at the Cité de la Musique in Paris, this variation around John Coltrane's repertoire completes the interpretation of A Love Supreme, the famous American jazzman’s profession of faith. Led by Christophe Dal Sasso and the Lionel Belmondo Big Band, this powerful sequence obviously evokes the richness of in-house recording. Immortalized during a concert at the Village Vanguard in New York, alongside clarinetist Eric Dolphy, “Spiritual” is renewed by an impressive brass section, including the dazzling François Théberge on saxophone. Among the most famous themes of John Coltrane and the emotional peak of Giant Steps, the moving “Naima'' (after Trane's first wife) is reinhabited by Laurent Fickelson's piano. Yet it is the epic "No Hate, No Anger" that holds our attention. Composed by Christophe Dal Sasso, this miniature symphony-style work combines various percussions, incandescent riffs and poetic scansion. The prize for interpretation goes here to Allonymous, whose declamation is reminiscent of the sublime "Lady Day And John Coltrane '' by Gil Scott-Heron. Fans take note... Vincent Caffiaux
