Summary:
To record his 2010 album, *Kreol*, Mário Lúcio travelled more than 90,000 kilometres in order to disentangle the threads that make up his identity. Directed by Frédérique Menant, this documentary follows the Cape Verdean singer in a duo formation with Milton Nascimento in Rio, with Teresa Salgueiro in Lisbon and with Pablo Milanés in Cuba. In Mali and Senegal, as well as in Paris with the West Indians Ralph Tamar and Mario Canonge, his approach aims to define the concept of Creolity, an impossible mission according to Edouard Glissant with whom he has a long dialogue with in Martinique. Reflecting on oppression, migration and tolerance, the film captures magnificent musical complicities articulated around a common heritage, and ends where it began, with Cesaria Evora in Cape Verde. It marks an exciting journey, one allowing Mário Lúcio to embrace all dimensions of his life. Eric Delhaye
