Summary:
In 1993, the tropical island of Saint Lucia hosted its second international jazz festival, which was initiated by saxophonist Luther François, its musical director and Caribbean jazz pioneer. For four days, some of the world's most renowned musicians perform with their ensembles: Regina Belle, Nancy Wilson, Will Downing, and Jimmy Scott on vocals, Najee and Andy Hamilton on saxophone, Terence Blanchard on trumpet, Delfeayo Marsalis (the third sibling) on trombone, Earl Klugh on guitar, Third Eye (Matt Elliott) on electronics, and Ramsey Lewis and Herbie Hancock on piano. Seeing the island and its inhabitants is a subtle reminder that jazz was born in Caribbean waters. Marion Paoli
