Summary:
The encounter between the Art Ensemble of Chicago and a chamber orchestra, as well as the context in which it takes place, make this concert absolutely memorable. We are in Bremen, Germany, in 1993. Precisely, the concert takes place in an empty pool, an original setting that inspired the two compositions presented: "Swim" by Klaus Obermaier and Robert Spour, then "Magic Sculptures Stripe The Air" , Breahless ... "(Wilfried-Maria Danner). On one side is the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, founded in 1980 and directed by Peter Rundel, whose musicians do not obviously fear adventures in unknown territory. On the other, we find the ever-radical Art Ensemble of Chicago, stallion of free jazz since 1969, in his complete formation: Lester Bowie, Roscoe Mitchell, Joseph Jarman, Don Moye and Malachi Favors who dive abrasive solos into a bubbling rhythmic. The contrast of the two orchestras is obviously exciting. While the first composition begins with a long crescendo of violins, his beautiful arrangement is suddenly leveled by the bazaar of bells, drums and gongs. Then, the trumpet player Lester Bowie spits fire in front of the section of brass winding in tight rows. The whole concert emphasizes this opposition of improvisation and writing, shaking strongly the lines, in a merry atmosphere even frankly pooch: at the end of Swim, his two composers tumble into the pool to greet ... in jerseys bath! Eric Delhaye
