- Summary:
- Singer Don Van Vliet (aka Captain Beefheart), Frank Zappa's former high school friend, embodies blues rock in this 1974 archive, where bell bottoms and long hair are all the rage. From 1967 to 1982, his Magic Band built him a reputation within 15 years; the musicians who made up the band were often anonymous. After his band broke up, he decided to stop music altogether and devote himself fully to painting until his death in 2010. With a casual but energetic attitude, the many musicians on stage here explore a "deconstructed" blues, which the drummer decides to take literally at the end of the concert. Inspired by the show that has just taken place, he throws his cymbals and pushes his toms with a very rock vibe. This is a rare archive of a musician who is not well enough known to the general public. Floriane Esnault
