Chushak (Empty) is an audiovisual work by Yinna Higuera that combines the evocative power of photography, testimonies, and descriptive data to create a story about the situation of closed community schools in Ecuador. Through documentary photography, Higuera has captured the essence of these sites, seeking to delve into the collective memory of a social event. "Today, 10 years later the community schools -the schools of the indigenous peoples and nationalities of Ecuador- are still closed. Today, these spaces, where the transfer of knowledge, cosmovision, and community organization converge, remain closed. Today those schools are silent, violated and forgotten. Padlocks prevent access to them and the deterioration over time symbolizes a deep impact on the heart of the commune." --Page 22.
