Summary:

Keyboards and jazz are becoming a classic pairing. A case in point is Herbie Hancock, an artist that frequently abandons his piano stool for a host of instruments such as the Fender Rhodes, the Clavinet and, of course, the Moog modular synthesizer. Another fan of keys, knobs and buttons of all kinds, French composer Laurent de Wilde has frequently experimented with the musical inventions of the late 20th century, even writing a remarkable book about the inventors of the electronic keyboard: aptly named Les Fous du Son, or “The Lunatics of Sound” in English. Yoni Mayraz, an heir to this technology and artistry, reveals the full range of his talent during this performance at Zürich’s Moods Club. The Israeli keyboardist's playing is undeniably groovy and effortlessly revamps the iconic keyboard designed in the United States by Robert Moog. The melodies flow naturally; backed by Tom Driessler on bass, Zoe Pascal on drums and Callum Connell on saxophone, Mayraz evokes the 70s with a production skillfully complemented by elements of funk and soul. Signed to the excellent Polish label Astigmatic (also responsible for Cykada's recent opus Metamorphosis), Yoni Mayraz does not limit himself to one place, let alone time period.
