- Summary:
- Oumou Sangaré is a rare breed of artist. A superstar in her native Mali, and one of the most respected singers on the international world groove circuit, she is also a consummate businesswoman (hotels, agriculture and automobiles), an activist for women’s rights, and a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. With the help of Ali Farka Touré, she signed to Nick Gold’s World Circuit Records and began to gain serious status at the age of only twenty-one. She has carried the legacy of her country’s music, especially the Wassoulou regional traditions, to this day. This intimate interview gives viewers the chance to get closer to Oumou Sangaré through her discussions of first musical memories, initial inspirations, and her respect for Bob Marley as a figure.
