- Summary:
- This film celebrates the 30th anniversary of Zaïko Langa Langa, the leading Kinshasa youth orchestra of the 1970s, who unveiled artists such as the immense guitarist Pépé Felly and Papa Wemba (still in flares by this point). The documentary employs a heady soundtrack, journeying back to the explosion, then subsequent Soukouss and cavacha mutations, of a genre very popular with everyone from the Zairian maquis to the best dressed dances in Paris: the Congolese rumba. Archives and testimonies show how, immersed in the urban melting pot, this funk fury seized a youth in search of emancipation. It was comprised of the revolutionary snare-drum tempo, guitar solos, screams and intoxicating dances. It is no wonder that Zaïko Langa Langa's road crossed that of James Brown or Tina Turner... incredible ambiance!
