- Summary:
- As part of the London Jazz Calling series, events that seek to tap into the extraordinarily fruitful UK scene, Binker Golding took to the stage at the Moods in Zurich alongside a regular accomplice on the piano, Sarah Tandy (put on the map internationally by her celebration 2019 album *Infection in the Sentence*); drummer Sam Jones, a product of the fantastic *Tomorrow’s Warriors* development program and sideman to Zara McFarlane; and Daniel Casimir, the bassist and onetime student of Dave Holland. Binker himself has been a lauded saxophonist for a few years, particularly as a result of his award-winning trio of albums alongside Moses Boyd. He now sits next to the likes of Shabaka Hutchings, leading the charge on brave new sounds, where rhythm, intensity, and danceability are as important as the music’s intellectual underpinnings. Concerts like this involve bouncing crowds at the same time as some seriously intricate stuff disentangles itself on stage. Pensive, heartfelt and unequivocally modern music. Rowan Standish Hayes
