Summary:
In the exciting breeding ground that South Africa represents for house music, here we discover Villosoul, producer and DJ, invited to celebrate Black History Month with the sponsor of the event, Carl Craig. In memory of the African diaspora, Qwest TV co-organized this live series last February in Johannesburg, from Constitution Hill, a sadly legendary prison which today houses a museum and the Constitutional Court. A young local talent, Villosoul stood out with "Umona" (feat. Stranger) released on his first album Piano To The World (2021), which aimed to spread amapiano, this style of South African house music which mixes deep house, jazz, and lounge on a background of African percussion, even more widely. He then reached the top of the charts this year with the heady hit “Zula Zula” in the company of Khanyisa and Focalistic, carrying the amapiano banner high and clear. For this set benefiting the musical education project Bridges For Music, Villosoul begins gently with a few soft synths, then continues with his compositions such as "Groovists” with its police sirens, and “+18 Tech” and its unmistakable moans… A mix that honors amapiano but also his compatriots like Da Capo (also present that evening) and his delicious remix of Angelique Kidjo “Agolo”.
