Summary:
One has had the career of a multi-faceted virtuoso, able to embrace every style and the most open experiences. The other has enjoyed an uncommon experience for someone so young, which could only come from being a member of a family of musicians. It was the latter, Ana Carla Maza, who invited the former, Vincent Segal, who is more than 20 years her elder, to the magnificent stage at the Jazz à Porquerolles festival, set at the foot of a fort and surrounded by greenery. The daughter of Carlos Maza, the Chilean pianist who has recorded some 15 albums, Ana Carla Maza is driven by a passion similar to Vincent Segal’s, whose joy we feel every time he appears onstage, with -M-, Cyril Atef (for the duo Bumcello), Piers Faccini, Ballaké Sissoko, and Oxmo Puccino, who were regular collaborators, as well as Sting, Vanessa Paradis, and Jun Miyake. So many names that suggest how much Vincent Segal is an in-demand musician. This pair is incredible, with world eclecticism combined with South American influences, the sparkling Ana Carla Maza’s voice united with Vincent Segal’s flawless accompaniment on the cello. They follow a Latin repertoire under the confident leadership of the youngster. In the final minutes, she gets the joyous spectators to sing and clap before they offer up well-deserved applause.
