- Summary:
- « With this new technology you could do it all yourself, so you were the composer, you were the performer, you were the sole arbiter of your creation » Suzanne Ciani. And with these words Suzanne Ciani created a name for herself with a decades long, award winning career… The boom in electronic composition in the 70s accompanied by the newly commercialized production of synthesizers - notably for Ciani, the development of Don Buchler’s synthesizer the Buchler Series 100 – created a new dynamic in the music industry for women. Escaping the need of instrumentalists and the (at the time) heavily male ecosystem that governed the music industry, Suzanne Ciani’s work – notably her sound design in several high-profile ad campaigns and a plethora of studio albums - opened up a new conversation about the place of electronics and women in music. Opening the Amsterdam Dance Event with Metropole Orkeste, the American composer’s modular sound is fused with the richness of a full orchestra under the baton of Simon Dobson. A master of quadraphonic sound, Ciani’s work plunges us into her futuristic and meditative world, a unique experience for the listener.
