- Summary:
- Argentine maestro Juan José Mosalini carved an obsessed, intimate, and stormy tango for this appropriately-named show. Alma de Tango intertwines music, song and dance with precision for an ardent tribute to the golden age of tango, from Buenos Aires to Paris. The intense, serious singer Sandra Rumolino radiates poetry on the Alhambra stage in Paris, vibrating in turn under the feline pasos of Jorge Rodriguez and Maria Filali, while the feverish quartet — on violin, bandoneon, double bass, and piano — works in sync with a custom-made soundtrack by brilliantly summoning the great masters, starting with Gardel and Piazzolla. In chiaroscuro, the camera captures the thrill of the tango soul; it’s exhilarating. Jeanne Lacaille
