Summary:
Maddening, feverish and temperamental free jazz ... this is what virtuoso Théo Ceccaldi offers us in this live performance at the Moods Club where he plays superb compositions from the album *Amanda Dakota*, released in February 2018. Voted best newcomer at the "Victoires de la Musique 2017", Théo Ceccaldi comes not only from the world of jazz: he in fact won his first prize in violin and chamber music in 2004 and devoted himself passionately to classical music for a long time. Overflowing with curiosity for new sounds, he then turned to jazz with a direct, non-conformist spirit. "With the *Freaks* [his group], we are all very eclectic in our choices (...) we listen to a lot of current music, and we wanted this music to be quite physical and committed with a lively sound." Throughout the concert, we are amazed at how easily the mood switches from an incandescent electric atmosphere to strange experimental sounds. As a master of live settings, the artist sews in a few toned-down moments, then abruptly sweeps away these singular reveries with energetic and powerful waves. Ceccaldi is the spiritual son of both Philippe Katerine, the zany singer-poet who displays the same eccentricity of delivery, and Frank Zappa for his unhinged break-up improvisations. The excellent track "Henri m’a tué," with its rhythmic, rock tempo keeps us on the edge of our seats until "Bonne nuit Madame" where we are quietly bewitched for a peaceful finale.
