Summary:
Toquinho, the guitarist from São Paulo and long-term accomplice of the poet Vinícius de Moraes, had already generated a remarkable discography by 1983. Here, at thirty-seven years old, he appears in front of a Swiss crowd to play Musicalmente, the Italian musical TV show. This marked the last date of his European tour, where he’d been showcasing the diversity of Brazilian cultural heritage. Toquinho joins the rest of the band for his composition "Alô, Alô," proceeding to roll out classics such as Chico Buarque ("Samba de Orly"), João Gilberto ("Falsa Baiana"), Ary Barroso ("Na baixa do sapateiro"), Baden Powell ("Berimbau") and Luiz Gonzaga ("Asa Branca"). He takes us on a voyage from Rio to Sertão, concluding with a declaration of love for Bahian culture on "A Bênção, Bahia" and "Tatamirô," performed with a virtuosity that matches his sentiments. Eric Delhaye
