Summary:
At only 29 years old, the British Ross from Friends has established himself as one of the most innovative DJ-producers of his generation, and the American Flying Lotus has made no mistake in already signing him to their always cutting-edge label Brainfeeder. After a handful of remarkable EPs, he released his first album Family Portrait (2018) under the wing of FlyLo, followed by Tread (2021), which oscillates between soothing lo-fi sounds and dynamic tracks, made for clubs. It must be said that Ross from Friends, who’s real name is Felix Clary Weatherall, “fell into it when he was little”! His father, a sound system designer, played in squats around London in the 80s before traveling by van to raves across Europe, where he met his wife. The party didn't stop with the birth of Felix, who was on the dancefloors practically from birth...a story told in his Pale Blue Dot clip, made up of home archival footage. In 2012, after using several stage names, Felix became Ross from Friends and surrounded himself with his friends John Dunk (saxophone and keyboards) and Jed Hampson (electric guitar) to develop his live performance, which propelled him beyond the traditional DJ set. Since then, the three of them have performed at some of the biggest international festivals, including Coachella and, here, the Dour Festival. An entirely live performance where the trio interprets tracks from their new album, resolutely danceable, with elegant melodies, hazy voices, and varied atmospheres, and which confirms that Ross from Friends is indeed one of the great revelations of recent years.
