Local Notes:
Singer-Mendenhall copy purchased for the Penn Libraries in 2024 from Antiquates Fine & Rare Books.
Singer-Mendenhall copy has armorial bookplate (arms: sable three falcons close proper; "John Hawksworth M.A.") on front pastedown; autograph ("Ellen Hawksworth") followed by manuscript note ("Moller") in a different hand, both in pencil, on front free endpaper. The bookplate is probably that of John Hawksworth (1785-1876), vicar of Woore, England (1830-1864) and of Broughton, England (1864-1876); the autograph, that of his wife Ellen Maria Hawksworth (née Möller; approximately 1788-1870). The Hawksworths were first cousins through the Möller family: John was the son of Maria Möller (1760-1821) and her husband John Hawksworth (d. 1810); Ellen was the daughter of Maria's brother Andrew Möller (1739-1810) and his wife Elizabeth Le Champion (d. 1802).
Singer-Mendenhall copy has partially illegible dated 20th-century autograph ("[...].L. [...] Bruges April 1937") in blue ink on front free endpaper.
