Elisabeth Moyle Gregor's poetical miscellany is written on blank pages bound between two volumes of Edmund Waller's poems, published in 1682 and 1690. An inscription in the first book of Waller's poems identifies it as a gift from Sir Walter Moyle to his daughter. This book is signed by Elizabeth Moyle, by J. Gregor (presumably Elisabeth Moyle's husband) and by Mary Gregor, possibly the couple's daughter. The printed text in the first volume of Waller's poems contains a number of MS emendations, primarily to correct typographical errors. One discursive annotation, in Waller's "Of Divine Love," signals that two lines are "admirable" (p.56). The miscellany itself consists of ten transcribed poems of Waller's which were not published in the two printed books, as well as twelve poems by other contemporary poets, the majority of them political. Two of these poems are transcribed in other hands: a hand resembling Mary Gregor's has added an anonymous poem, which begins with the line "Well, whatever sins by times have sway'd me" (MS item 31); a later hand, referred to as "Hand D" throughout this catalogue entry, has inscribed bibliographical details about some of the poems as well as contributing the final poem, from Oldys' Life of Sir Walter Ralegh (MS item 32). This Hand D makes reference to a 1711 edition of Waller, so we may conclude that the items in Hand D were added in the eighteenth century at the earliest.
