- Summary:
- From The Costume of China. Illustrated in forty-eight coloured engravings. Published by William Miller: London, 1805. This shows an officer appointed to attend the British Embassy. He wears a cap with a peacock feather, a blue cotton jacket and a silk vest. From his girdle hangs his handkerchief, knife, chopsticks and purses for tobacco. He has a bow and quiver of arrows. His boots are of satin, with thick soles of paper: 'these are always worn by the mandarins and superior Chinese'.
