- From The Costume of China. Illustrated in forty-eight coloured engravings. Published by William Miller, London, 1805. This shows a soldier armed with a matchlock gun. At his right side hangs his cartouche-box and on his left, his sword. In the background is a military post. A sentinel beats a gong to call out the guard, who are ready to salute a man of rank.
