- Letters from the Papers of Sir George Leonard and George Thomas Staunton, mostly from George Thomas to his mother. During the period 1816-1817, George Thomas was a ranking member of Britain's second embassy to China under Lord Amherst, and it was under his advice that Lord Amherst refused to perform the Kowtow and was subsequently barred from Peking.
